Update!

Things have been good since the Ragnar Relay.

On the one hand, the week right after Ragnar I had some "taper like" symptoms which I assume came from going from training to not training. I was fine Monday and Tuesday then Wednesday and Thursday I was dragging and felt as hungry as if I were training for a half ironman!

Two weeks out from Ragnar, with one more week of deep rest to go, I'm feeling pretty good although still, in my opinion, "too hungry." Not that I'm opposed to eating it's just that I wish I didn't have to eat so much or so often. Yeah I know cry me a river.

My body is feeling pretty good and with the weather as nice as it is, I'm happy to get outside and do things like walk the dog or spectate the Pumpkinman.

Pumpkinman was last week and it was a lot of fun to be out there on my clunky, non fitting mountain bike (from Walmart or somewhere) spectating and not racing. It was actually a bit too warm for my taste (and for October) but really what did I care. I wasn't racing! No nostalgia, no regret whatsoever for not racing. Even though this race is what started it all for me in the fall of 2006. No worries, I'll be BACK in 2010!

I followed Tony along most of the run course -- that was fun. He had a great time racing it and kicked some ass. Then I went home and took a nap. When you've quit training cold turkey sometimes the slightest exertion in warm weather feels like a lot!

Am I worried about losing fitness? Hell NO. I know I'm losing fitness. And I'm FINE with it. This is what I have a coach for! She tells me to take three weeks off and she doesn't have to tell me twice! Plus she backs up this recommendation with all kinds of evidence, articles, etc. Even if she didn't do that I'd still listen. I mean just look at my results since training with her! PRICELESS.

During this little hiatus, this vacation from training, my spark of motivation is coming back! I actually have Season 2010 planned out already. Not ready to write about it yet but it's planned. And it is PERFECT to support everything else I'm doing.

2010 is going to be a HUGE year for the growth of my business! Ha! I've been laying the groundwork, working with clients, and can I just say I can't wait!

More to come . . . . . . . .

It's nice to hear some say that they're OK with losing fitness. I mean, in order to train effectively I think it's important to have that downtime. I don't think even pros can be in a constant state of peak fitness and performance.

Glad you were able to cheer for your wonderful training partner Tony. Look forward to hearing what you'll be up to in 2010!!
